A second underage girl has been linked to rumors of an inappropriate relationship with Rays star Wander Franco in his native Dominican Republic, according to the Dominican newspaper Diario Libre

The publication cited a connection in the Attorney General’s office in Bani, Franco’s hometown.

Diario Libre reports the complaint against Franco, 22, was filed by a 17-year-old girl in July.

Franco, an All-Star shortstop this season, has been away from the team since Sunday after social media posts alleged he was involved with a teenage girl.

Diario Libre makes a point of clarifying that the underage girl who filed the complaint in July is different than the one reportedly linked to Franco’s alleged social media posts that triggered MLB’s investigation.

The Attorney General’s office told the AP on Monday that it was investigating the matter.

On Sunday, Franco appeared to deny the allegations circulating on social media in a video on Instagram Live, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

“They say that I’m in public with a little girl, that I’m running around with a minor,” Franco said in the social media video in Spanish. “People don’t know what to do with their time. They don’t know what they’re talking about.

“That’s why I prefer to be on my side and not get involved with anybody.”

The legal age of consent in the Dominican Republic is 18 years old.

MLB’s official investigation launched Monday and the Rays released a statement saying they “support any steps taken by the league to better understand the situation.”

Franco was placed on the restricted list while the investigation takes course and will continue to be paid, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Franco did not play in Sunday’s home series finale against Cleveland at Tropicana Field and did not accompany the Rays to San Francisco for the start of a six-game road trip that began Monday night against the Giants.

The road trip, which includes three games against the Giants and three against the Angels, ends next Sunday.

The Rays return home to face the Rockies on Aug. 22.

“We support any steps taken by the league to better understand the situation,” the club said later Monday of the MLB investigation. “Out of respect for all parties involved, we have no further comments at this time.”

Rays president of baseball operations Erik Neander addressed media on call later but kept it to baseball decisions, saying, “Our comments on Wander are going to stand for what we have to say.”

Franco is batting .281 with 17 home runs, 58 RBIs, a .819 OPS and 30 stolen bases this season.

The Rays are 72-49, three games behind the Orioles for first place in the AL East, and currently in position for the American League’s top wild-card seed.

Some form of ransom is a thing in some countries, be it kidnapping or some threat of litigation

Catching your meal ticket is also a way out

Not defending him, just saying things are not always as they appear. Let time do it's thing

22 and 17 is not quite the same thing as 63 and 12

I would not go quite out there and say he’s a pedo.

If this relationship happened less then 365 days later everyone would be saying it’s cool

So a 17 year old is in a relationship with a 22 year old and than goes and runs to the police because of statuary rape?

Give me a break on that---sounds like she wanted money and he refused then she played the "ooo i am less than a year from being legal so you are in big trouble!"

The one about him and a 14 year old though is obviously troubling for him to say the least.

For statuary rape I at least believe we should also look at the age of the person who committed the alleged crime along with the age of the alleged victim. I mean he is 22 if he was a 33 with a 17 year old I would feel different.

A person close to the investigation into allegations Wander Franco had an inappropriate relationship with a minor believes it is 'very unlikely' that Franco plays in MLB again

like the whole fucking island :)

I have a 60 year old business owner that married a 30 year girl from the DR, she even through in two young kids  (saves him thousands in taxes every year)

Then I had a young latin man who works for one of my clients who married a younger woman from the DR. Within months she left him and accused him of domestic abuse. Nothing ever happened to him, she was just looking for a way into the US. I guess that's a thing too

MLB places Rays' Wander Franco on administrative leave.

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball on Tuesday amid multiple investigations into alleged relationships he had with underage girls in his native Dominican Republic.
Franco, 22, who missed the past week after the Rays placed him on the restricted list, is being investigated by Dominican police, as well as MLB's department of investigations. While no charges have been filed against Franco, a prosecutor last week said a division specializing in minors and gender violence is directing the police investigation.
The designation of administrative leave is a significant but expected step by the league. Administrative leave removes a player from a team's roster during an ongoing investigation into a potential violation of the sport's domestic violence policy and can be extended indefinitely with the approval of the MLB Players Association.
The administrative leave, effective immediately, is not disciplinary under the Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. We will comment further at the appropriate time," MLB said in a statement Tuesday.
Should Franco not challenge the leave, which is his right during the first seven days, the league could ask the MLBPA to consent to a seven-day extension of the initial designation. Following the first 14 days on administration leave, the MLBPA and MLB must come to an agreement on any further extension.
MLB started its investigation into Franco within hours of social media messages Aug. 13 that alluded to Franco's relationship with a girl under the age of consent, which is 18 in the Dominican Republic. A prosecutor in the province of Peravia, where Franco's hometown of Bani is the capital, told The Associated Press last week that an investigation with "a minor involved" is in its early stages and will be led by Olga Dina Llaverias, a prosecutor who specializes in child abuse cases. Diario Libre, a Dominican newspaper, had reported that a 17-year-old girl filed a complaint with the attorney general against Franco in July.
The social media storm on Aug. 13 prompted the Rays to keep Franco from joining the team in San Francisco, where it was scheduled to play the next day. Tampa Bay and Franco agreed for him to spend the next week on the restricted list, but with a home series starting Tuesday against Colorado, the use of administrative leave rather than an extension of his restricted-list stay was expected.
If Franco were to challenge administrative leave -- during which he will be paid and accrue service time -- the case would go to a neutral arbitrator, who would decide whether there is "credible information" to support the allegations against him or if Franco rejoining the Rays would "cause significant disruption" to the team.
MLB and the MLB Players Association, as well as Franco's attorney, Jay Reisinger, declined comment.
Franco, who is in the second year of an 11-year, $182 million contract, was in the midst of a breakout season, batting .281/.344/.475 with 17 home runs and 30 stolen bases, and he made his first All-Star Game appearance.

It becomes a crime the moment it was exposed to the rest of the world.
